Obituary

Gail Downing Hewitt of South Natick, peacefully passed on April 3, 2021, at age 90 with her oldest daughter at her side.

Gail was born February 28, 1931 in Hingham, Massachusetts, daughter of Harold and Ruth Downing, also of Hingham. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Graves D. Hewitt, and sister Jane D. Ward. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Laura Hewitt Riley & Madison Riley of Wellesley, Susan and Michael Stahl of Seattle, grandchildren: C. Madison Riley and wife Kathryn Lantuh, Gray Riley, Sarah Riley, Hannah Smith, and great-grandson Charles M Riley V.

Gail was raised in Hingham and attended UNH. She met her husband Graves Hewitt on a blind date set up by dear friends. They were happily married and raised two daughters (above) in Wellesley. As her daughters got older, Gail also ran a decorating business – Gail Hewitt Interiors and enjoyed crafts of many kinds. She also loved travel, reading, church work, gardening, instilling a love of gardening and outdoors in her family.

She and her husband were dedicated to each other, to family and friends, to their church and Longyear Museum. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Longyear Museum, 1125 Boylston St., Chestnut Hill, Mass. 02467

"When the light of one friendship after another passes from earth to heaven, we kindle in place thereof the glow of some deathless reality." (Pulpit and Press, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 5:6–8, 11) For us, the deathless reality of our dear Gail were her wonderful sense of friendship, steadfastness, helpfulness, always ready with a kind opinion. Godspeed, dear Friend. Brooks and Katharina, Kristiana and Scott
