Obituary for Anne T. Pressman
Anne T. (Sheehan) Pressman, age 93, passed away in the comfort of her family after a short illness on May 26, 2023. Anne was born on August 20, 1929, in Boston MA. She was the daughter of Dr. William J. Sheehan and Annie (FitzGerald) Sheehan. Anne was predeceased by her husband Abraham I. Pressman, her sister Mary (Sheehan) Sullivan and brother William J. Sheehan.
Anne was proficient in all she attempted. She graduated from Radcliffe College. Following college Anne worked for the Department of the Interior in the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington DC. Anne returned to Boston and earned a master’s degree in economics from Boston College. Anne excelled in the field of finance and was proud of her achievements where few women were given opportunities. She performed economic research at Arthur D. Little, a management consulting company, and then continued her success at New England Mutual Life Insurance Company where she rose to the role of Senior Treasurer.
In 1972 Anne married the love of her life, Abe Pressman. They lived in Waban MA where she enjoyed her life with Abe. Abe, a noted engineer, was the author of textbooks on Switching Power Supply Design. Anne was the editor of his books. She also assumed the role of business manager for the courses and lectures Abe gave to engineers and scientists in the US and other countries. These courses provided Anne and Abe the opportunity to travel extensively for many years. Family meant everything to Anne and Abe, and they enjoyed hosting many parties at their second home in Quissett MA and during the holidays in Waban. Anne was always ready for a multigenerational family party and loved making her guests feel welcome. Anne entered a new phase of her life shortly after Abe’s death in 2001. With her dog Tara, she moved to Lasell Village. Always the intellectual, she loved taking courses at Lasell University.
Anne embraced technology. She used it in her classes, corresponding with friends and family or Facetiming or Zooming with the Pressman’s and her many nieces and nephews. Anne was interested in current issues and never hesitated to vigorously discuss them. Anne avidly watched the news until a few days before her passing. Anne never missed a Mass whether she was in Israel, Singapore or on an adventure in other parts of the world. Anne was a loyal parishioner in Saint John the Evangelist parish in Wellesley Hills. During Covid and when she could not travel Anne would attend Mass by watching it on television. Anne loved life and family and was always willing to face adversity head-on. Her strength, resilience and good humor were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Anne is survived by three children and their spouses, Norman and Wendi Pressman, Dan Pressman and Kathy Walsh, Eric and Amy Pressman and by grandchildren and their spouses Jeremy and Linh Pressman, Julie (Pressman) and Matt Forsyth, Jamie (Pressman) and Gareth Danker, and Kate Pressman. Great grandchildren loved by Anne are Isaac and Ian Pressman and Jessica Anne Danker. Anne is also survived by nephew William Sheehan III, nieces Nancy McCrory, Mary Emily Brown, Catharine Newick, Patricia Geary, Hilary Carlson, and Barbara Buntrock and by nineteen great nieces and nephews and twenty-five great-great nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington Street, Wellesley Hills MA on June 5, 2023, at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated at Saint John the Evangelist Church, 9 Glen Road Wellesley Hills at 11:00 AM. The Mass will be live streamed at https://sjspwellesley.org/sj/live.
Following the Mass, Anne’s burial will take place at Newton Cemetery and Arboretum, 791 Walnut St., Newton Centre.
