Obituary for Frederick E. Dunlap

Frederick (Freddy) E. Dunlap born April 27, 1953 of Wellesley, formerly Newton, passed away November 26, 2022 at the age of 69 from cancer.

Freddy graduated from Newton High School and worked most of his career as a dishwasher at Polaroid. He was a hard worker, loved handheld radios, anything that told time, the weather, Dunks, Florida, oldies music, bowling, The Flintstones, chocolate chip cookies, his birthday, The Boulder, Seafood Sams, Hart's Turkey Farm, Funspot and much more. Freddy loved a good joke, retold dramatic stories through gritted teeth, and was a wonderful friend and family member who was almost always up for just about anything.

Freddy was an avid artist whose work was shown in the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum in Boston. He joined the Pathway to Possible community more than two decades ago. This community enriched his life beyond measure and afforded him many life long friendships.

Freddy is predeceased by his beloved parents, Frederick E. Dunlap and M. Phyllis Dunlap, his protective older sister Christine A. Dunlap and his “partner-in-crime" younger brother James M. Dunlap.

He is survived by his aunt and uncle Nancy and Fran Goulart of Mashpee, MA, his nephew Greg McKenna and his wife Rachel Cox and great-nephews Oscar and Ivan McKenna of Wallingford, PA. His niece Kate McKenna and her husband Geoff Eads and great-nieces Greta and Elsa Eads of Andover, MA. His niece Jennifer Dunlap of Derry, NH. His brother-in-law Bill Johnston of Hideaway, TX and former brother-in-law Charles McKenna of Chelmsford, MA. As well as many cousins and a wonderful crew of friends at Pathway to Possible.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 5th at 11AM in the Story Chapel at Mount Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mount Auburn St. Cambridge followed by interment in Mount Auburn. An hour of visitation will be held immediately prior to the service from 10-11AM in the Story Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Freddy may be made to Pathway to Possible, 1301 Centre Street, Newton, MA 02459.
