Obituary for Elaine Sylvia Quinan (Sullivan)
Elaine Sylvia Quinan (Sullivan), of Osterville, passed away in Westwood on August 31, 2022, at the age of 85.
Elaine, formerly a longtime Wellesley resident, is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Robert L. Quinan, of Osterville and Westwood; her loving children and their spouses: Robert Jr. and Steven Waddell (of Boston), Joseph and Alison (of Holliston), Elizabeth "Betsy" and Michael Bergin (of Hanson), and Jane and William Thompson (of Sterling, Virginia); eight grandchildren: Emily, Sarah, and Jocelyn Quinan; Michael, Andrew, and Matthew Bergin; and Sylvia and Ava Thompson; and many nieces and nephews in the Quinan, Sullivan, and McLoughlin families. Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved son, Gregory,
and her sister Kathleen McLoughlin.
Elaine was the daughter of the late John Timothy and Eleanor (Foster) Sullivan of Wellesley. She was a 1959 graduate of Regis College. While raising her five children, and faithfully attending all their sporting and other school events, Elaine worked as an advertising copywriter and special events coordinator at Grover Cronin department store in Waltham. For many years thereafter, she taught English as a Second Language at Carney and Beth Israel hospitals. Together with her husband, Bob, she hosted more than 20 foreign students from 11 different countries in their home. Elaine was a devoted parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church, Wellesley, for more than 60 years. She also served years ago as a trustee and tutor at Nativity Preparatory School in Jamaica Plain.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday September 6, 2022 at 10:00AM in St. John the Evangelist Parish, 9, Glen Rd., Wellesley. Visiting hours Monday September 5th from 4-8 PM in the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington St. Wellesley. Interment to follow in Holyhood Cemetery,
Brookline.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
