Obituary for Ronald D. Hathaway

Ronald Dexter Hathaway, 67, of Waltham, died on June 11, 2022, surrounded by family.

Born and raised in Newton, MA, Ron was most at home on the water: fishing in Boston Harbor, the Gulf of Mexico, or the Nova Scotia coast; or boating on the Charles River, Sebago Lake in Maine, or Mill Pond in Ashland. He also often surveyed nearby water from a comfortable vantage point, assessing the wildlife and the weather.

A long-time EMT, skilled cook, and handyman/tinkerer, his skills and attention improved many lives. Full of jokes and stories - some you wouldn't believe! - he could be counted on to make a goofy face from across a room. He was also an immense softie - the quickest to tears at anything sad, joyful, surprising, or funny.

Father of Rebecca (Amram) Migdal of Waltham, Sam (Justine) Hathaway of Waltham, and Ali Hathaway of Holliston. Beloved Da/Grampy of Makayla Hathaway, Victoria Lombardo, Meirav, Saiit & Limor Migdal, and Iris Hathaway (who shares Ron's middle name.)

Ron will be deeply missed by his adoring mother and fellow road warrior, Barbara (Videon) Hathaway; his siblings, Timothy Hathaway, Susan O'Brien, and Valarie Giairusso, and Steven, Eric & Julie Hathaway; along with his step-mother Sandy Hathaway, nieces & nephews, aunts & uncles, cousins & friends. Ron is also survived by his ex-wife Janice Hathaway. He is predeceased by his father Howard Hathaway.

A celebration of Ron's life will be held on July 21 from 4-8pm at the The American Legion Nonantum Post 440, 295 California Street, Newton, MA. We invite anyone who knew Ron to attend and share their memories of him.
