Obituary for John McAuliffe

John McAuliffe, age 74, long time resident of Newton, Massachusetts, passed away at his home in Marlborough, Massachusetts on June 8, 2022, peacefully while surrounded by family.

John was survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Karen McAuliffe, his son, Daniel McAuliffe and daughter in-law Lori (DiStefano) McAuliffe, his daughter, the late Laura McAuliffe, his son, Michael McAuliffe and Michael’s girlfriend Jessica Azoff and, of course, his pride and joy, he was Papa to his nine Grandchildren, Ashley, Hayley, Courtney, Heidi, Marissa, Averi, Ryan, Danny and Liam. John also leaves behind his sister, Cheryl (McAuliffe) Castoldi and brothers Brian LeFort, Sister in-law Joan (Cloherty) LeFort and David LeFort.

He grew up in Allston, Massachusetts and attended Boston Latin School. John, known to many as “Coach” due to his illustrious career leading the Troubadour Ton Dart team and also known to many as “Honest John”, long time Commissioner of the Honest John Football Pool. John was a cornerstone at the Troubadour Restaurant in West Newton as a Bartender and then Owner.

John was extremely generous and caring and would give the shirt off his back. One thing that John was always willing to give, is advice and did not care if you wanted to hear the cons or not, he would give them anyway. He truly was a brilliant man and could talk to anyone about anything. He was not the warm and fuzzy type, but he was the ultimate family man. A great provider and supporter. He would do anything to make his family happy.

He loved boating and being on the water, playing darts, golf, watching the Red Sox, spending time with his friends playing Keno on Thursday nights and watching his kids and Grandchildren play every sports game he possibly could. Also, he was a Curry College fan and went to all of Michael’s football games. He will be sorely missed by so many.

The family has decided to hold private services for John. Please keep him in your thoughts and keep the memories of him alive.
