Obituary for Douglas P. Clark

Douglas Paul Clark, a lifelong resident of Newton, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 at the age of 73. Born in Newton to the late Robert and Hazel (Schliephake) Clark, he was a graduate of Newton High School class of 1965. He was engaged with the Newton community and actively involved with people and families through various youth activities like the Newton West Little League Baseball and the Newton North Gridiron Club. He was an employee of HP Hood in Chelsea, and Zenith Nichols in West Newton. Douglas was an important customer/member of The Troubadour Restaurant family and a transportation specialist for Newton Yellow Cab. He had a love and a fondness for swimming pools, and working in the yard. His own flower garden surrounding his pool was a brilliant example of his green thumb. He loved his cats Donato and Delaney, Budweiser cans, 7&7s and coffee brandy Sombreros. Douglas loved spending time with his family. Having been born on Thanksgiving Day in 1947, he adopted Thanksgiving as his favorite holiday. Most importantly, he fought for the freedom of the South Vietnamese people as a member of the United States Army in the Vietnam War from 1966-1969. As all members of the Vietnam War, he not only lost friends who gave their lives but he left a piece of his soul there for his country.

Douglas was the beloved husband of Sharon Howard-Clark of Clinton and loving father of Albert J. Clark and his wife Diane Bastianelli of Waltham, Brian J. Clark and his wife Neva of Chandler AZ and Jeffrey R. Clark and his wife Kelly of Newton. Devoted grandfather of Ariana, Ava, Brennan and Connor Clark. Dear brother of Barbara Crawford and her husband Bob of Plymouth. He is also survived by stepsons Chad Howard of Framingham, Shane Howard of Augusta GA, step-grandchildren Hailey Anne and Reese Howard as well as his former wife Angela Mastroianni Clark and three nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to visiting hours at the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St. West Newton, on Wednesday, May 5th from 4-7PM. Interment will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Thursday May 6th at 12:30PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Clark’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org
