Obituary for Carol Louise Stalzer (Barrett)

Carol Louise Stalzer passed away unexpectedly in her home in Wellesley, Massachusetts early on January 5, 2020. She is survived by her beloved husband of 34 years Rudy Stalzer, her children, Katherine Stalzer of Holliston MA and Steven Stalzer of Stow MA, sister Joyce Barrett and her husband Phillip Fournier of Bolton, MA, and brother Robert Barrett and wife Stephanie Barrett of Centreville, VA, and four nieces and nephews – Eric Fournier, Megan Fournier, Christopher Barrett and Madison Barrett. The daughter of Silas Alfred (Al) Barrett and Adele (Olsen) Barrett, both deceased, of Norfolk, MA, she was born in Manchester Connecticut.

Carol received her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and French from the State University of New York in Potsdam, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Boston University. She lived in Massachusetts for the last 44 years, in Wellesley since 1984. Carol had recently retired from her position managing an assisted living facility, and previously held several administrative or management positions at Boston University, the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, and in high tech. She was an active member of the community, leading or speaking at conferences held by the League of Women Voters, and serving on church and residential boards, the latter in her Orleans MA vacation home.

An excellent cook, voracious reader, and worthy Scrabble opponent (she always won), Carol was happiest spending time with her family on the beaches of Cape Cod, putting together complex puzzles, or playing the piano while leading everyone in singing Christmas carols and popular music. She loved all animals, especially dogs, bred several championship Scottish Terriers, and provided a loving home for others.

Carol’s creativity, intelligence, sense of humor, and unwavering love and support for her family will be sorely missed.

A memorial service will be held this Saturday, at 11:00 AM, January 11th at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, 207 Washington Street. You may visit with the family before the service from 9:45-10:45 AM in the church reception room on the second floor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Snow Public Library in Orleans, Massachusetts or the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church.
