Obituary for Anna M. Taranto
Taranto, Anna Marie (Renzella), of Medfield, formerly of Newton and Mansfield, passed away on June 18, 2019 surrounded by her family. Anna was born in Boston on May 1, 1922, to her late parents, Giuseppina (Rando) and Antonio Renzella. She was the beloved wife of the late Angelo Joseph Taranto. Devoted mother of Marianne (Taranto) Priante and her late husband William A., Sr. of Bellingham, Jane Marie (Taranto) Lomax and her husband Warry E., III of Medfield, John Albert Taranto and his wife Joan of Burlington and the late Richard Joseph Taranto.
Anna was the loving grandmother of nine: Diane Marie (Priante) Gaughran, William Alan Priante, Jr., Anthony Joseph Priante, Richard Joseph Taranto, Kristina Marie (Taranto) Mentzer, Lauren Nicole (Taranto) Masseur, Sarah Ann (Lomax) Parker, Matthew Christopher Lomax, and Michele Marie Lomax-Kessloff and their spouses.
With the impending birth of a new great-grandchild, Anna was already the doting great-grandmother of nineteen: Brian Christopher Gaughran, Julia Marie Gaughran, Cassandra Frances Priante, Domenic William Priante, Angelina Eva Priante, Annabella Mia Priante, Alycia Marianne Priante, Olivia Rose Taranto, Anna Elizabeth Mentzer, Ethan James Mentzer, Grayson Lee Mentzer, Parker Joseph Masseur, Connor Charles Masseur, Zachary James Masseur, Eilis Alice Parker, William Warry Parker, Jenna Brooke Lomax, Ava Reese Lomax, and Camden Luke Kessloff.
Anna was the dear sister of Yolanda Santamaria, Katherine Cappadona and the late Mafalda Fasano. She was also the sister-in-law of Frank Fasano, and the late Joseph Cappadona and Stephen Santamaria. Along with her immediate family, she also leaves countless nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and friends.
Anna married her sweetheart, Angelo on June 14, 1942 and was happily married for over 73 years.
Prior to their marriage Anna worked for the Necco Candies Company in Cambridge. Later, she worked for her brother-in-law Stephen Santamaria as a waitress in his Piety Corner Gardens Restaurant in Waltham and for many years as a lunchroom mother at the Hyde Elementary School in Newton Highlands. During World War II, Angelo was drafted into the Army as a Military Policeman. Since he was primarily stationed in Chicago at Union Station, Anna followed him to Chicago. However, when Anna was expecting their first child, she returned to her parents’ home in Roslindale. After Anna and Angelo retired, they became avid bowlers. Every Wednesday, they along with family and friends loved to get together to bowl, have lunch, and play cards.
Anna’s greatest passion was to care for her family. No one was a better cook or baker, and no one ever entered her home without sharing in a meal and some delicious dessert. Her family was the most important thing to her and she would often say “if only I could keep everyone together by surrounding them with a big fence.” Anna was also very protective of her family. It didn’t matter if you were flying around the world or just going home a few miles away, she would always say to everyone, “be careful,” or “call me when you get home,” or “just give me one ring when you get home,” or “I know it wouldn’t be you, but it would be someone else, so just be careful!”
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart
Church, 1321 Centre Street, Newton Centre followed by interment in the Newton Cemetery, Newton.
Visiting hours will be Friday evening from 4:00-8:00 PM in the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St., (Rte. 16), West Newton.
