Obituary for Katharine M. Row (Megan)

Katharine M. Row of Wayland, formerly of Weston, MA and New London, NH died Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the age of 94.

Katharine “Kay” was a vivacious personality who loved tennis, golf and spending time with her family. She was the only member of her extended family to score multiple hole-in-one’s at the Twin Lake Village golf course in New London, NH. Kay will always be remembered for her wonderful sense of fashion and impeccable style. Born in Watertown, Mass, she graced the High School’s cheerleader and tennis squads and wrote the popular “Here and There” column for its school paper. She graduated from Regis College in 1946 with a degree in business. Afterwards, she worked in the downtown Boston business community before marriage and later gave birth to four daughters and a son. Kay was forever dedicated to her family by going to all sporting events and plays for her children and grandchildren. She hosted many memorable family gatherings and holidays well into her 80’s. For many years, she was a substitute teacher in the Weston School Department. She would then summer at her New Hampshire house “The Meadows” for over 4 decades.

Kay was the beloved wife of the late Walter A. Row, Jr. and Loving mother of Judith Fledderjohn and her husband Jerry of Sherborn, MA, Diane DeGroff and her husband Michael of Squaw Valley, CA, Nancy Miller and her partner Paul Gillen of Sturbridge, MA, Walter A. Row, III and his wife Arlene of Hamilton, MA and Emily Hipona and her husband Mark of Ashland, MA., She is the dear sister of Janet Greehan of Belmont and the late Thomas Megan. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren; Jeremy Miller and spouse Deanna, David Miller and fiancee, Lydia Helliwell, Kathy Rosencrantz and spouse Nelson, Kristen Fledderjohn, and partner John, Matt Fledderjohn and spouse Caty, Tim Fledderjohn, Gregory Row, Kimberly Kuebler and spouse Daniel, Dustin DeGroff and spouse Liz, Brittany DeGroff and fiancee Travis Mraz,
Colby Hipona and 8 great grandchildren; Madison, Jackson, Harper, Carson, Will, Weston, Walter and Noah.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 1, 2019 at 10:30AM in St. Julia Parish, 374 Boston Post Rd, Weston followed by interment in Linwood Cemetery, Weston. Visiting hours will be Thursday evening from 4-7PM at the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington St. Wellesley Hills.
