Obituary for Francis A. Vona

Francis A. Vona, of Newton, died peacefully in his sleep November 12, 2018, with his family at his side. Predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Carline Ann (Patterson). Loving father of Michael F. and his wife Laura of Randolph, Francis A., Jr. and his wife Fern of Framingham, Eric M. and his wife Maureen of Stoneham, David W. and his wife Julie of Shrewsbury, Karen M. Vona McIntyre and her husband Richard of Needham, and Diane M. Vona Lynch of Medfield.
Son of the late Rosario and Doratea (Bruzzeze) Vona, he was the dear brother of Dorothy Scarlett and her late husband Edward, Frederick Vona and his wife Lorraine, Robert Vona and his wife Florence, Patricia Ann Clegg and her husband Elmer and the late baby Freddy. Devoted grandfather of Brady, Brett- USMC, Carline, Jameson, Padriag, Katie & Jack.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 17th at 10:30 AM in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St., Newton. Visiting hours Friday, from 4-8PM in the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St. West Newton. Interment will be Monday, November 19th at 12:30PM, in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
Mr. Vona was a proud veteran of the US Marine Corps, having served during the Korean War. He was a firefighter for the City of Newton for 35 years, as well as having 38 years of devoted service to the Boston Bruins Organization.
