Obituary for Randall P. Russo

Russo, Randall P., age 65 years, died on September 25, 2018. He leaves
his twin brother, Ronald T. Russo of Wrentham; his father, Peter T.
Russo of Weston; his siblings, Steven Russo and Anne Christie of
Hampton, CT, and Diane and Mark Booher of Westborough; and his speical
aunt and uncle, Kathleen and Lawrence Bemis of Medway. Attorney Beryl
W. Cohen and Federal Judge Joseph L. Tauro brought transformative
justice and care into Randy's life at Fernald Center (Waltham, MA)
beginning in 1974. Because of their extraordinary advocacy, Randy was
afforded a formal and individualized legal process before being required
to transfer to Wrentham Developmental Center (Wrentham, MA) in 2014.
Randy's family is deeply grateful for the help of thousands who cared
for him over these six decades. Calling hours are Sunday, September 30, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Burke &
Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington Street, West Newton, MA.
Funeral gathering is Monday, October 1, at 10 a.m. at Burke &
Blackington, with a service there at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the
Newton Cemetery 781 Walnut Street, Newton Centre.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Randy's memory to VOR, the
only national advocacy organization for individuals with intellectual
and developmental disabilities that opposes the elimination of
specialized, facility-based (institutional) residences and services, and
