Obituary for Robert F. Kearns

Robert F.  Kearns
Robert F. Kearns of Newton Highlands passed away Friday May 4, 2018 at the age of 85. Born in Springfield to the late Leo and Mary (Horgan) Kearns, he was a graduate of Springfield High School. A proud veteran of the US Army, Robert’s service during the Korean War allowed him to attend U Mass Amherst on the GI bill, graduating in 1958. He then went onto earn a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. Beloved husband of Mary (Farrey), the couple married in 1986 and settled in Newton Highlands. Robert retired from a 30-year career as electrical engineer at GTE in 1992. An amateur radio enthusiast in his youth, Robert spent many hours communicating with people all over the world. Robert was the dear brother of the late David W. Kearns and Judith Allen. Along with his wife Mary, he survived by many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, May 9th at 9AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 9 Glen Rd. Wellesley followed by interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 3-6PM at the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington St. Wellesley. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Catholic Charities c/o Advancement Office 275 West Broadway, Boston, MA 02127.
