Obituary for John Joseph O'Hara Jr.

John O'Hara of Wellesley passed away peacefully on July 12, 2015. Born on November 24, 1948, to John and Virginia O’Hara of Wellesley, he attended Wellesley High School and earned a B.A. in History from Boston College.
His greatest passions in life were his love for history, Boston sports, and his entire extended family. His zeal for sports and its figures, from Orr to Brady, was rivaled only by his delight in spending time with his siblings, nieces and nephews. He was a beloved uncle to all, but particularly cherished his time with his niece, Kate Mullin Trainor, her husband, Chris Trainor, of Sudbury, MA, and their five daughters, Kaleigh, Kiera, Emma, Katelin and Kennedy. Dedicated to his family until the end, John was a devoted friend and traveling partner to his sister Kathy until her recent death in June. He was also instrumental in caring for his sister Ginny until her passing in 2001.
His love, care and unyielding wit will be missed, and felt, by all whom he leaves behind. John is survived by his siblings Dave O’Hara and his wife Kathy of Hooksett, NH, Mo O’Hara McDonnell and her husband Mike of Highland Mills, NY, and Beth O’Hara-Miklavic and her husband Kirk of Cape Elizabeth, ME, thirteen nieces and nephews, and eight great-nieces and -nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 17 at 11AM in the Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola, 28 Commonwealth Ave, Chestnut Hill. Visiting hours Thursday, from 5-8 at the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington St. Wellesley Hills. Interment will be private.
Donations in John’s memory may be made to Boston College Woods College of Advancing Studies.
