Obituary for Constance A. "Connie" Carter (Kruger)

Constance A. “Connie” Carter of Wellesley, formerly a resident of Weston for over 65 years, died on September 27, 2018 at the Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, J. Ward Carter, and her son Dana W. Carter who died in 1978. She is survived by her daughter Chrystalynn, of Erie, Colorado; sister Barbara Peterson of Anderson, South Carolina; niece Berryl Bate of Asheville, NC; nephew Bruce Bate and his wife Carol Bate of Hartwell, Georgia; and nephew Glen K. Peterson and his wife Kelly Rappucci of Campobello South Carolina.

Connie, born in New York City on December 18, 1925 to Dr. Walter A. Kruger and Anne Fordyce Kruger, was a highly talented pianist who graduated from the Barrington School for Girls, Great Barrington Massachusetts in 1944; performed at Carnegie Hall; received training from teachers at the Juilliard School of Music; and graduated with a degree in Music from Wellesley College in 1947. She has been an avid music supporter, teacher of the pianoforte, music critic, and member of the Wellesley College alumnae association. In 1950, she was a key founder of the New England Piano Teachers’ Association (NEPTA), serving as president from 1967-69, and participating in the administration, leadership, scholarship fund, and activities of that organization for over 65 years. Having attended the Congregational Church of Weston since its inception, Connie and her family have been known for their involvement, contributions, and exemplary support of numerous activities in the church, the schools and local community.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday October 3 at the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home located at 56 Washington St., Wellesley Hills. Visiting hours and viewing will occur from 2-2:30 pm with a memorial service to follow at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions and remembrances be made to the Dana W.
