Obituary for Rose Acquadro (Quagliati)

Rose Acquadro (Quagliati)
Rose Acquadro, a 70-year resident of Wellesley, died June 24, 2018 at home surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of the late Andrew M. Acquadro, she was the loving mother of Dr. Martin Acquadro and his wife Jean (McCarthy) and devoted grandmother of Lauren Andrea Acquadro, all of Wellesley. She is also survived by her dear sisters: Angelina Serra of E. Boston, Mary Colometo of Revere and Clementina “Tina” DeMeo of E. Boston, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Acquadro was born in Boston to the late Nicola and Sofia (Pignataro) Quagliati. She met the love of her life, her husband Andrew, during WWII while working the overnight shift at the Boston Naval Ship Yard. The couple married in 1945 and lived in East Boston for five years while building their home in Wellesley; a home they built themselves and where she remained after the loss of her husband in 1997, until her death Sunday morning. After the end of the war, Mrs. Acquadro went to work for Raytheon Power Tube Division located on California Street. She then went on to work for a shoe manufacturing company, which allowed her to work from home to care for her young son. In 1960, she went back to work outside of the home as a telephone operator, transitioning to the technical side of telecommunication in the late 1960s. In 2003, at the age of 80, she retired as a Central Office Technician and member of the IBEW. She was known for her laughter and enthusiasm, as well as her sense of comradery with her fellow workers including all the of the linemen and journeymen for whom she ran tests and loops.
Mrs. Acquadro was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Wellesley, as well as a supporter of the Wellesley Masonic Lodge. The highlight of many weeks were her Sunday visits with her parents, sisters and extended family in Boston. She loved her trips to Pennsylvania, Florida, and Cape Cod. Above all, she cherished spending time with family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 28 at 9AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 9 Glen Rd. Wellesley followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 5-8PM at the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington St. Wellesley. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Acquadro’s memory may be made to the David K. Johnson Foundation with the mission of “Supporting a Cure for Alzheimer’s and Helping Families Affected” at DKJFoundation.org
