Obituary for Philip R. Dushku

Philip R. Dushku
Philip R. Dushku of Dedham, beloved husband of Deborah Grace (Boyd), died June 16, 2018, after a long illness. Philip was born in Boston on June 2, 1941 to George V. and Vilermini D. (Tontonozi) Dushku. Proud father of Aaron and his wife Arlenin (Perez) Dushku, Benjamin Dushku, Nathaniel Dushku and his husband Amnon (Ami) Lourie, and Eliza Dushku and her fiance Peter Palandjian. Loving brother to Nicholas Dushku and his wife Donna of Providence, Utah; Victor Dushku of Sweden, Charles Dushku of Boston and predeceased by his sister Gloria Dushku of Brighton, MA. Philip also leaves behind five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. As a child growing up in Boston's 'South End', he attended the United South End Settlements' summer program on Squam Lake, New Hampshire. Dedicated to giving the same experience to other Boston youth, he spent many summers as an employee and volunteer there. In 2011, he was a leader in the effort to integrate girls into the 100+ year-old program. His experiences at 'Camp Hale' inspired a lifelong dedication to the organization that culminated in the prestigious Gigi Pieri lifetime service award. Philip received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Worcester State College and a Master of Education degree from Boston State College. He later received a Master in Business Administration degree from Suffolk University. Of the many accomplishments in his career as a Boston Public Schools teacher and administrator, Philip developed the 'RECAP Program' which set returning high school 'drop-outs' back on the path to graduation. He touched the lives of countless BPS students who remember him fondly. Friends and family are invited to share memories and honor Philip together on Saturday, July 14 at 3 o'clock at the Dedham Community House, 671 High Street, Dedham, MA. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Dushku Campership Trust Fund of the Camp Hale Alumni Association at http://camphalealumni.com/give-a-gift or by mail to 453 South Main Street, Attleboro, MA 02703. Donations to the Alzheimer's Association at ALZ.org also greatly appreciated.
