Obituary for Christina Dangond

Christina Dangond
Christina Dangond Lacouture died peacefully on January 26, 2018 in Boston, MA. She was 11. The daughter of Fernando Dangond and Monica Lacouture of Weston, MA and sister of Daniel and David Dangond, she is also survived by her grandmothers, Elisa Castro de Dangond of Valledupar, Colombia and Monica Pinedo de Lacouture of Santa Marta, Colombia, and by many relatives and friends from around the world.

Christina was a remarkably intelligent and energetic young girl who loved making friends, playing with her dog Coco, singing and dancing, doing arts & crafts, biking, playing tennis, and traveling around the world. She liked attending school, doing homework, playing board games, and dreamed of being an interior design artist. She loved going into open houses at every chance, to imagine how she would decorate the home if she lived in it. She loved going to summer camps and to the beach with her friends and cousins. She loved asking her dad for a "go shopping" date, and buying presents for her brothers Daniel and David, whom she adored. Christina had a heart of gold and was remarkably generous, always giving away all her dolls and toys to her friends. She loved posting in Instagram and in the Facebook prayer groups "1 millon de oraciones por Cristina Dangond Lacouture" and "1 million prayers in English for Christina Dangond Lacouture". On January 26, the day of her passing, there were more than 55,000 followers of Christina in the prayer groups, combined.

Christina was diagnosed with cancer on December 12, 2012, feast day of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Christina fought cancer for more than 5 years, without ever complaining, trusting the Lord with all her heart, always with a smile. Christina was a force of life, a being of radiant light, a lamp in the darkness for many people whom she touched with her amazing charisma and powerful faith. Through short video posts, she asked her thousands of followers in Facebook to always remember saying "Jesus I trust in you." Coming from a beautiful girl stricken with cancer, this simple but powerful message made its way to thousands of homes around the world, and soon she transformed, and help convert, many souls through her warmth, resilience, ever present smile, serenity and wit. She left this world on January 26, the feast day of St. Titus and St. Timothy. Her favorite number was 72, the number of disciples of Jesus Christ.

When asked how she did her prayers, she would always say "God, do unto me as you desire." She was not afraid of dying, and could not understand why people had to dress in black to attend a funeral. She wished people came to her funeral wearing bright and vivid colors "like the rainbow", to celebrate that she was entering heaven. Christina lived a life of prayer, hope, faith and love for neighbor, and endured her suffering with dignity, acceptance and grace, never losing her intense adoration for Jesus her shepherd.

Christina taught everyone that a life trusting in Jesus was a plentiful life, a life deserving of the promise of heaven.

Christina's family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to Build the Faith, the foundation she inspired, at www.buildthefaith.org
