Ruth Mary Thompson
Born to the late John E. and Winifred Thompson, June 1, 1926, the same day and year as Marilyn Monroe, Ruth M. Thompson also left her mark on this world.

Although, as a teen, she was a transplant from Albany, NY she completely embraced New England as her own. As a serious Red Sox fan from Ted Williams to David Ortiz, and an equally serious Patriots fan she anticipated each season with great joy.

Beginning her career as a lifelong student, Ruth graduated from Brighton High School in 1944. Her classmates elected her the “Spirit of Brighton High School”. She went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Emmanuel College in 1948. At Boston College she earned a Masters Degree in Education in 1956. In 1965 she graduated from The Cardinal Cushing School of Theology and then returned to Boston College for a Master of Arts degree in 1969.

In 1948 she started a long and successful career as a teacher in the Boston Public Schools. She began at the Prince Elementary School moved on to Jamaica Plain High School, had a five-year tenure at Brighton High School, her Alma Mater, and retired from Boston Latin Academy in 1988. Throughout her forty years teaching she nurtured and influenced countless appreciative students.

Ruth was a proud member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society and a generous contributor to innumerable charities.

She is survived by her loving friend and caretaker Evelyn C. McMahon; two sisters-in-law Lily and Mary Thompson; her niece Jean Thompson; grand-niece Carolyn Cordeiro and grand-nephew Christopher Cordeiro. She was predeceased by her brothers John E.
